Karina Castillo got to experience some time working with preschool and kindergarten students at GEMS while completing her undergrad. After receiving her bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood education from DePaul University with a minor in ESL, she knew immediately that GEMS was the place to be! This will be her second year with the preschool team as a collaborating teacher. 

What she values most about early childhood education is the immediate bonds children have with their adult peers. Having that connection and relationship can transform a classroom environment into a positive one. 

Born and raised in Chicago, she enjoys trying out new cafés in different neighborhoods and reading a nice, long book.
